Welcome to my blog

Hi everyone!

Welcome to my blog. This is my first blog. Not really sure what to write, but I'll start by explaining the title. I'd like to journal my transformation from unhealthy to healthy starting with changing the way that I eat and hopefully getting fit in the process.

It all started when I hit "Rock Bottom" in December 2009 and I felt just rotten all the time. I had really severe acid reflux and resulting esophageal trouble. When I started having real trouble swallowing, I knew it was time to do something. I was feeling weak, lazy and my self esteem was pretty low too. Never having been close to 70lbs overweight, I was not ready to make the lifestyle is changes I knew were necessary, so I sent an email for help out to my life-lines and everyone responded with such encouragement and support but I still wasn't truly ready. I had the faith that it would come though since I knew that I was now accountable.

By January 4th, 2010, I was ready, so I did the only thing I knew would work and went back to the wonderful, supportive Weight Watcher's community discussion boards that have been really helpful before. I'm following the points plan on my own and it seems to be working so far. I'm also reading lots of Geneen Roth. She is so inspiring and really "gets" why I eat the way I do.

After losing my first 10lbs in my first month, I'm pretty optimistic that the next 60 will also go. I've got lots of people in my corner with me and I've found strength in some pretty surprising places.

I hate excercise, but I'm hoping to fit in more activity in my life in a sustainable way, so I'm not going crazy working out for an hour a day, 7 days a week. I know I'll never be able to maintain that. So far, I've managed to get in about 2 25-minute cardio workouts per week doing things I enjoy like dancing and walking. I may try to pick up some strength training since I know that it will be so good for me, but this is an area that I need to learn more about. I know, too, that I may have to pick everything up a notch when/if I hit a plateau. Really looking forward to nicer walking/biking weather.

So, that's where I'm at now. I'm feeling better already. Turns out, I was low in iron, so I've started taking supplements and I'm looking forward to having more energy soon. Acid reflux only a bit bothersome once in a while. I hope you decide to join me in my weight loss journey and that it can be inspiring, entertaining and insightful.

Yours in weight loss,
Vic
